Institute of Child and Human Development (ICHD)
Opening Doors for the Next Generation….
Institute of Child and Human Development (ICHD) is a research and technical assistance organization set up by a few like-minded professionals as a social enterprise partnership to work in child and development and related areas of human development. It was established in 2012 based on decades of experience and lessons from research and professional activities of the founding partners.
The institute focuses on a few limited areas initially targeting early childhood development and children with development delays and special needs, for which affordable quality services are non-existent. Training of professionals in child development; affordable services with acceptable quality in specific aspects of early childhood development, such as parenting skills and tasks; counseling clinics for children and parents; and community-based initiatives for socialization and values development of children are some of the critical needs identified in which ICHD is engaged.
ICHD, in addressing the priorities noted, designs and conducts professional training and short courses, provides services to parents and children in a demonstration and experiment mode, and undertake research initiatives to support evidence-based policy advocacy.
All children will enjoy childhood and have the opportunity to grow and develop to their full human potential. To this end, knowledge, research, policy and practice will be synthesized and used.
Professionals, families, academic institutions, government bodies, communities and civil society will support and contribute to the holistic development of children.
ICHD’s mission is to help develop the full potential and capacities of the person, by improving early childhood development opportunities and those for children with special needs – promoting a life-cycle approach to mutually supportive interaction between early childhood development and later stages of human development.
ICHD takes an interdisciplinary approach in setting and carrying out its key objectives in fulfillment of its mission. The key objectives are reflected in the following major areas of activities:
